In The News (2011)
During the month of September in 2011, equipment designed by the PlantD team was complete and ready for mockup testing. This equipment will be used to segment two Westinghouse PWR reactor internals at a commercial nuclear power plant. PlantD joined with the machine builder and the field service company to form a team that is probably unmatched in the industry today.
The PlantD team has been designing machines to modify and/or cut up Westinghouse (W), Combustion Engineering (C-E), General Electric (GE) and Babcock and Wilcox (B&W) nuclear reactors, reactor internals, and steam generators since the early 1980's. We currently offer turnkey machines from concept to mockup testing and training.
Our design staff has worked with virtually all cutting technologies used in nuclear D&D: Milling, Sawing, Drilling, Cold Cutting, Grinding, Plasma, Oxy-fuel Thermal Cutting, Abrasive Water Jet (AWJ), Diamond Wire Sawing, Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM), Metal or Mechanical Disintegration Machining (MDM), and Laser Cutting. We can give you the advantages and disadvantages of each for a specific cutting application.

the WM2011 show, PlantDecommissioning.com added a bubbling water display.
One of our remote, underwater grippers was displayed in a 7-foot (2-meter)
tall aquarium. Thank you to everyone that stopped by our booth and we
hope to see you next year.
The PlantDecommissioning.com group has been contracted by Zion Solutions (part of Energy Solutions) to provide support for the decommissioning activities at Zion Nuclear Power Station.
The PlantDecommissioning.com office is located in Lake Villa, Illinois and approximately 15 miles away from the Zion power plant (ZNPS).

PlantDecommissioning.com was invited to Humboldt Bay to present our ideas for segmenting the reactor vessel. Current plans for PG&E are to remove and ship the vessel without size reduction, but a segmenting approach is being considered.
(Later note: as of June 2011, the unique PlantD segmentation approach had been incorporated into the RFQ released by PG&E).
PlantDecommissioning.com will have a new booth location at the Waste Management 2011 Symposia. We will be at Booth #706 located next to the Energy Solutions booth by Lounge Area C. The WM2011 exhibition hall will be open Sunday February 27 through March 2, 2011 at the Phoenix Convention Center in Arizona.
