Millstone Unit-1

Overview
Millstone Unit 1 was a GE design commercial BWR power
reactor. It had a generating capacity of 660 MWe and 2011 MWt. It operated
from 1970 to November 1995. It was partially decommissioned while Units
2 and 3 were operating. Final decommissioning is planned to be done with
Unit 2. Unit 1 is currently cold, dark, and dry (except for the spent
fuel pool island) and in SAFSTOR.

Specifics
Internals Removal
All work was performed underwater. Several remotely operated mechanical
segmentation tools were used. All work on the internals was done by Framatome
ANP (now AREVA NP) and MOTA. Completed in 2004.
Reactor Vessel Removal
The reactor pressure vessel is believed to have been drained, closed,
and still in place. Plans are to remove the vessel after the Unit-2 license
expires.
